Service Pros USA Self-Help Page.

At Service Pros USA, we are way more concerned with making friends than money, so we
decided to post the following self help page. We encourage our customers to take the "a
apple a day keeps the computer doctor away" approach.

1)
ALWAYS make sure you have an antivirus program installed on your Pc. There are
several choices and most of them all work the same. The most important thing is that your
antivirus software is setup to receive the most current updates. Without these important
updates, your pc will not be protected. It is also very important to preform a full system scan.

2)
ALWAYS make sure you download and install all of the recommended Windows updates
for your PC. These updates contain security and other important improvements to your
Windows operating system.

3)
ALWAYS make sure you have a firewall running on your pc. Windows XP and Vista
include a built in firewall. If you have a different operating system, you can download a
third party firewall, some of witch are included in a package with your antivirus software.

4)
ALWAYS make sure you delete your temporary Internet files, this can be done in the
disk cleanup application or under Internet options.

5)
ALWAYS make sure you run your disk defragmenter, this only needs to be done from
time to time. It helps organise the files on your pc. Each pc is different, but running this tool
once a month or so should work.

6)
ALWAYS, ALWAYS make sure you back up your important documents, pictures ect.
Hard drives are like car engines, it's not a matter of IF they are going to fail, it's a matter of
when. Once your hard drive fails, it costs several hundred to several thousand dollars to
send out and recover those drives.

7)
NEVER download a program that you are unsure of. Lots of junk pops up on the Internet.
Some of these programs disguise themselves as spyware or antivirus programs, but actually
just cause problems. Just make sure you only download things that you trust.

8)
NEVER open up an email attachment file from someone you don't know. Tons of junk
comes through your email. Most of the time your antivirus program should pick it up, but
you are better off just deleting it. These files can look just like regular attachments, but
contain harmful programs.

Remember, computers require maintenance just like an automobile. Preventive maintain is
much cheaper and will keep your pc running faster and more stable. It is a good idea to
have a professional do a "tune up" once or twice a year to make sure your data is protected
and your pc is running at it's peak performance.
